Crystal Lake, IL Timber Frame Home
Archimage Architects' concept for this home was to design and organize all of the interior space around a dramatic three story stone fireplace. Trillium Dell milled trees taken from the building site for use in the frame, and worked with the architects on the frame design and connection details. The end result was a breath-taking heavy timber frame home with infill walls and roof system utilizing environmentally responsive SIPS (structural insulated panels).
A continuous "roof" enclosing the first floor rooms allows second floor rooms to be tucked in along the ridge line of the home. In addition to windows on the end walls of the second floor rooms, interior windows look through to dormers on the exterior wall- flooding the space with light. The walls surrounding the second floor rooms are visible from the first floor spaces which creates an elevated effect reminiscent of a tree house. A terraced slope provides privacy for the rear patio and offers a beautiful landscaped backdrop surrounding the pool.
Upon completion of the frame raising, Trillium Dell manufactured and installed reclaimed hardwood flooring. We also designed, manufactured and installed the home's main staircase using local ash, walnut, and steel.
