Restoration of Historic 1818 Log Cabin for City of Columbia, Mo

In April 2004 Trillium Dell Timberworks was awarded the contract to restore and relocate the Pop Collins Cabin in Columbia, MO. See the history of the cabin and view pictures of the progress to date. Trillium Dell dismantled the cabin in May 2004 bringing some of the logs to the shop for repairs. The cabin roof and floor were in good enough condition to be in one piece, and transported to the new site for re-erection. Trillium Dell Timberworks will return to Columbia, MO in October 2004 to re-erect the cabin at the Nifong Park Site. See article in the Columbia Missourian

Reconstruction of Old Capitol Bell Tower and Cupola in Iowa City, Iowa

Iowa State Old Capitol Building

Trillium Dell Timberworks was hired by Knutson Construction to replicate the original cupola and bell tower, which were destroyed by fire during restoration. Both of the super structures were built out of dry white oak, and held together completely with knife plates and other mechanical connectors. Trillium Dell Timberworks was under a fast-paced timeline to procure, design, fabricate and install the new replacement components in the fall of 2002. All design work for connections, and fabrication of the mechanical fasteners was performed by Trillium Dell Timberworks, as well as the shop work to pre-fit both entire frames at the Trillium Dell Timberworks facility. The raising was performed in tight (and very cold) conditions in December 2002, with a 15,000 LB, 120' pick for the first lift. The bell tower and cupola, built by Trillium Dell Timberworks, replicate exactly the original building first built in 1836. More about this project

Ft Massac after restoration

Timber and log construction, the stockade wall and blockhouse of Fort Massac

Reconstruction of Fort Massac

Trillium Dell fabricated seven buildings, the stockade fence, fraising line, gates, bridges and well for Fort Massac State Park in Metropolis, Illinois. This project involved over 200,000 board feet of oak (our houses usually involve 9-15,000 board feet). The buildings are stacked timbers with half-dovetail joints. They were constructed at our shop in Knoxville, IL then shipped to Metropolis, IL where they were assembled by River City Construction, L.L.C. . More Pictures

The David Wilcox House

The David Wilcox House

This wonderfully constructed home will be reerected in Occidental, California later this summer. It is built almost entirely of white Oak and is an early square rule frame. The rafters are 4x4 continuous purlin plates with a nicely pegged half lap at the top. The connection girts are an interesting set of tenons connecting both the tie beam and the post. All exterior vertical timbers are rabbeted to receive the siding and all interior horizontal timbers are rabbetted to receive the ceiling and floor. See photos of this project
